How much should I tint car windows?

I live in Key West and I just bought my first car. The heat here gets so intense that it can damage your dashboard, so I want to tint the windows to prevent this from happening. How much should you tint car windows?

Living in Key West and
Florida
in general certainly necessitates window tinting. But figuring out how much you should tint your car windows isn’t that easy. Choosing the right tint is half personal preference and half what the law dictates.
Window tint is measured in visible light transmission (VLT). The lower the percentage, the darker the tint becomes. According to Florida law, your tint must be no darker than:
  • 28% VLT for front windows
  • 15% VLT for rear windows
If you tint your windows more than this, you can receive a ticket for up to $116.
For a frame of reference to help you decide how much to tint car windows, use these figures:
  • 20% VLT for the sake of privacy
  • 35% VLT for a darker aesthetic that outsiders can still see through
  • 50% VLT for a lighter tint that still keeps heat and UV rays out of your car
Since you just bought a car, you may not have shopped around for car insurance. So the next time your policy is up for renewal, review it and then shop around for better rates with the
