How much is driving school in New Orleans?

I want to get my driver’s license in New Orleans, but Louisiana requires me to complete a driving course first. How much does driving school cost?

Congratulations on taking the first steps toward your driver’s license! Though paying for driver’s ed may seem like a frustrating prerequisite, it’s an important way to learn the rules of the road safely.
Depending on the school, pre-licensing courses in New Orleans generally cost:
  • $350–$400 for a 14-hour course (adults 18+)
  • $400–$450 for a 38-hour course (teenagers under 18)
For an extra fee, some driving schools will schedule and take you to your road test as part of the course. This usually costs between $20 and $50.
You’ll need to make sure your driving school is approved by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. You can find a list of approved schools on the OMV’s website.
If you’re looking to take a
defensive driving course
to help fight a speeding ticket, most driving schools offer a two-hour refresher course for around $150.
While driving school may be an expensive necessity, your insurance doesn’t have to be.
