How much is a seatbelt ticket in Virginia?

The cost of a Virginia seat belt ticket depends on the specific violation. For an adult seatbelt violation, the fine is $25, but a youth violation could cost up to $50. Adult seatbelt violations are secondary offenses, meaning you can’t be fined unless you’re pulled over for a different reason. If a passenger under 18 isn’t wearing a seatbelt, though, it’s a primary offense.
Virginia’s seatbelt law requires anyone under 18 to be buckled up. While adult passengers can legally be unbuckled in the back seat, it’s not exactly safe. Every person riding in the front seat—including the driver—must be wearing a seatbelt no matter how old they are.
