How much is a seat belt ticket in Arizona?

So the boys and I were bookin’ it from Tucson to Phoenix last weekend to eat at Fuddruckers, as we got wind of their buy-one-get-one-free half-pound burger special. My cousin Maury was so excited about the special that he forgot to buckle up, and he only realized this when it was pointed out to him by the Arizona state trooper who pulled us over along the way…for speeding. He still issued me a speeding ticket, but only warned us about Maury's seat belt, saying we could get fined for that, but didn’t say how much. How much is a seat belt ticket in Arizona?

In
Arizona
, most fines for not wearing a seat belt are $10 for a first offense. However, that amount can be increased based on the number of passengers in the car at the time.
Arizona is considered a
secondary seat belt state
, meaning a police officer can’t pull you over only for not wearing a seat belt. They have to pull you over for another offense first—but if the officer notices you or someone in the car is not wearing a seat belt, they can issue a fine. If you are found to have any children under five in the car not secured in a safety seat, the fine is $50.
