Recently, when I’ve been driving my Toyota Rav4, the engine will catch when it shifts and briefly stall before it finally keeps going. I’m guessing something is wrong with the transmission. Will I have to get it replaced? How much does it cost to replace a Toyota Rav4 transmission?

A Toyota Rav4 transmission replacement can range from $1,500 to $6,000. Transmission issues can cause delayed shifting and engine stalling, along with these other issues:
- Burning smell from under the hood
- Grinding or loud noises when shifting
- Engine surges
- Leaking transmission fluid
If your vehicle has any of those issues, it’s best to have a professional look it over and diagnose it. You might be able to get your transmission repaired, but serious issues will warrant a full replacement. You also want to get it checked sooner rather than later to avoid making the problem worse, leading to more damage.
