Can a claim on a home be denied if it's the result of unlicensed work?

I got permits to do work on my house, but people told me not to bother. With that said, can a home insurance claim be denied if it was the result of unlicensed or unpermitted work?

“In most cases, a home insurance company will payout, even if the claim was the result of unlicensed or unpermitted work.
That said, if you knowingly did work on your home with unlicensed workers, this may be grounds to deny your claim.
Therefore, it’s always important to go about things the right way. You wouldn’t hire some guy off the street to work on your car and then bill your car insurance, so why would you do it with your home?
After the work is completed on your, do make sure that you inform your home insurance company. Modifications can affect your rates (sometimes in your favor) so it’s always a good idea to let them know.
If you think your rates are too high, it’s always a good idea to shop around. Finding companies and requesting quotes can be time-consuming, so leave the hard work to Jerry. The free Jerry app pulls quotes from top companies and delivers the best deals to your phone in minutes.”
