How much does it cost to maintain a Tesla?

I’m thinking of switching over from a traditional car to a Tesla. I want to make sure I can fully afford it, because my old car has turned into a lemon and is eating a hole in my pocket. I don’t know anything about electric cars and want to know what I’m getting into.

“Making a leap from a gas car to a hybrid or electric car can be a big leap. Especially a
Tesla
, but kudos for wanting to understand more and budget before jumping in.
A car that runs on gas usually
requires the following to be maintained
:
  • Oil changes
  • Fuel filters
  • Spark plug replacements
  • Emissions check
Teslas don’t require any of the above or gas. Most Teslas are under warranty, which can vastly affect how much you’ll actually spend to maintain it.
Depending on the Tesla you’re looking into, the general expected maintenance includes:
  • Cabin air filter (two to three years)
  • HEPA filter (three years)
  • Tire care (6,250 miles)
  • Break fluid test (two years)
  • Desiccant bag replacement for the Airconditioning (three to six years)
  • Winter Care prep (once a year or every 12,500 miles)
Rarely, they may require
brake pad replacement
, but not nearly as frequently as a traditional car.
Another cost, like tires every couple of years or 40,000 miles, is about $1,200.
Since you’ll still need car insurance if you decide to purchase a Telsa, make sure you’re getting the best car insurance rates. By using the
