rims cost between $100 and $250 per wheel. It is sometimes possible to repair rims, which typically costs between $50 and $150. Here are some things to consider to help you decide between repairing or replacing your rims:
- What are your rims made of? Steel rims are stronger and can be bent back into shape without weakening the metal. Chrome wheels are just plated steel, so they can be bent back as well. Alloy rims, however, will usually have to be replaced.
- How bad is the damage? Surface scratches and small dents are easily repaired, especially on steel rims. Scratches in chrome are costly to fix, so it’s cheaper to replace the rim entirely.
- Were the tires affected? If your tire was gouged or popped off the rim, it’s possible the rim is too damaged to salvage and will need to be replaced.
If you still have any doubts, talk to a trusted mechanic about your rims. They should be able to give you a cost estimate to replace them and let you know if they can be repaired instead.
