How many electric car charging points are in Scotland?
I read recently that the U.K. is working to increase the amount of electric car charging points across the nation. But what about areas like Scotland that are often rural with rugged terrain and stormy weather? Do areas like that have a lot of places for drivers to recharge?

Scotland has a long way to go when it comes to electric car charging points. With only 2,100 points across Scotland to recharge (compared to over 10,000 in the greater London area alone), the U.K. has a lot of work to do in order to ramp up their infrastructure across rural areas like Scotland and Wales.
Scotland, in particular, is aiming to reduce private car usage (vehicles that are personally owned, as opposed to public transportation) by 20% before 2030, which may be difficult if their infrastructure can’t keep up.
Scotland may be keen on switching to electric cars, though—21% of Scotland’s new car sales in December of 2021 were electric vehicles, which is promising. Better to start now, though; similarly to the U.S., the U.K. is planning on ending the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2030. Currently, the U.K. estimates that Scotland will need approximately 30,000 public charging stations in order to help each private citizen comfortably transition to an electric car.
