How many cylinders does a Toyota 4Runner have?

I’ve been pressed into service, driving my daughter and her 7th-grade trivia team to the State Trivia Finals in Philadelphia next weekend. (Her best friend’s dad came down with whooping cough, and no other parent volunteered.) Now, when I drove them to regionals downtown, they kept peppering me with questions about communicable diseases—the competition topic. I had no answers (I’m just a furniture engineer), and they weren’t happy. This time they’ll be asking me questions about automobiles (the final-round topic) for seven hours on the way to Philly, so I gotta be prepared. How many cylinders does my 2022 Toyota 4Runner engine have?

Toyota 4Runner
has six cylinders in its V6 engine. This won’t change regardless of the trim level.
Most of us here at Jerry have children, and we’re used to being peppered with all sorts of questions, reasonable or not. We have a feeling that if your daughter and her trivia teammates ask you about the 4Runner’s cylinders, they’ll likely ask what a cylinder is. Once again, we’ve got your back.
A cylinder is a chamber or space in an engine where gasoline is combusted and power is generated. The cylinder is made up of several components, including a piston and two valves at the top, an inlet, and an exhaust tip.
The piston slides up and down—this activity generates the power that moves a 4Runner (or whatever vehicle you’re driving). The more cylinders an engine has, the more powerful the vehicle is.
Most vehicles are made up of either four, six, or eight cylinders. Cylinders are aligned in one of three ways—a line (aka inline), a V-shape (aka V6), or a flat arrangement.
Despite the 2022 4Runner’s six trims, just one engine is available—a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The 4Runner is available in either rear- or all-wheel drive, as well as part-time or full-time 4x4—in case the kids ask.
