How far can a Nissan Altima go on empty?

I was driving home from a camping trip recently and my fuel tank started flashing empty while I was still about 15 minutes from the closest gas station. I made it there in time, but it got me wondering: how far can a Nissan Altima go on empty?

Most vehicles—including the
Nissan Altima
—can travel between 30 and 100 miles once the gas gauge hits E. Your exact mileage will depend on several factors, ranging from how old your car is and its general condition to your driving habits, but in most cases, your car won’t stall out immediately if your fuel gauge is depleted.
Of course, that doesn’t mean you should drive for a long period of time when you know you’re low on fuel, but you should be able to make it to the closest gas station. And if you own a newer Nissan Altima, your car’s digital dashboard tracks how many miles you have left until you run out of gas.
