How far ahead should you look while driving?

I’m new to driving and still a bit nervous. Can you tell me how far ahead I should look while driving?

After you get a bit of experience under your belt, this will eventually become second nature. When traveling at faster speeds, look ahead to where you will be in the next 15 to 20 seconds. Another strategy is to simply look as far ahead as you can see.
Some other tips for new drivers are:
  • While looking ahead, you still need to frequently check your mirrors
  • Avoid looking directly at high beams
  • Keep your eyes moving
  • Leave some extra room between you and the car ahead just in case
