How does the BMW warranty work?

I’m thinking about buying a BMW, but before I do, I want to make sure I know how the warranty works in case I have any issues. Can you explain to me how exactly the warranty works on a new BMW vehicle?

The BMW warranty works by providing protection against defects in workmanship or materials that occurred at the factory—but not as a result of maintenance or wear and tear. The BMW warranty covers these defects for 4 years and 50,000 miles, whichever comes first and includes a bumper-to-bumper warranty and a powertrain warranty.
To file a claim on your BMW warranty, follow these instructions:
  1. Call the BMW warranty hotline at 1-800-831-1117.
  2. Report your problem to the customer service agent.
  3. Give your personal details, vehicle details, and warranty details.
  4. Schedule an appointment and take your car for service at the scheduled time.
If you happen upon a situation where your car isn’t covered by the warranty, you may need to pay for repairs out of pocket. To offset some of this cost, download the
