How does roadside assistance work with rental cars?

"Do rental car companies have their own roadside assistance programs? I rent vehicles a lot as I don't have my own. I often travel to remote locations for hiking and camping. Should I purchase a separate roadside assistance membership?"

“Most rental car companies offer their own roadside assistance programs. Since you don’t own your own vehicle, you may not fully benefit from a separate roadside assistance membership.
If there is a particular company you frequently rent from, you can find out the rate that they charge for roadside assistance. You may find that the rental car companies rates are lower than a yearly or monthly membership.
However, companies like
AAA
often have partnerships with other retailers and businesses. If you frequent places that offer AAA or another company discounts, it may be worth purchasing a roadside assistance membership.
Since a variety of companies offer roadside assistance, you should compare rates and coverages. If you’re going to remote locations, many companies offer a specific towing radius. You’ll want to consider a membership or plan that will fit your lifestyle and needs.”
