I’m learning how to drive a manual car right now and I’m always afraid I’ll stall it if I make the wrong move. How do you slow down a manual car while you’re driving?

Driving a manual car can definitely be tricky at first! To slow down while you’re driving, you can follow these steps:
  1. Take your foot off of the accelerator. Your car should immediately begin to slow.
  2. If you’d like to slow down further, you can slowly apply
    the brake
    .
  3. To slow down even more, remove your foot from the brake and press down the clutch so that you can downshift to the next lowest gear.
  4. Before you let off the clutch, you’ll need to tap the accelerator once or twice to get the engine and the transmission to the same speed.
  5. If you want, you can repeat this process and continue to downshift until your car stops.
