How do you settle a car accident without insurance?

My boyfriend was driving home and said that a car turned and swiped his bumper. The driver has insurance, but they don't want to use it. They want to settle privately. How would we do that?

Car insurance
rates commonly
increase after an accident
, so many drivers prefer to settle things without insurance.
While doing so is perfectly legal, you need to set terms when settling privately.
Sign a written contract or agreement with the other driver. This provides proof in a court of law of the other driver suddenly reneges on their end of the bargain. If you forego this step, an insurance company could
deny the claim
since the accident was initially unreported.
The agreement should also outline who was at fault and responsible for what damage. The payment amount or amount of damages should be in the contract as well.
Even if you’re not going through insurance, file a police report for peace of mind and additional evidence. Having a record of the accident along with the other driver’s information can be beneficial for your records.
While you may choose to avoid insurance now, a good policy is important. If you want to look at your options for insurance, go to
