I went to a concert last night and this morning I just found someone’s used chewing gum stuck to my passenger side door—how do you remove gum from car paint?

Fortunately, there are a few ways to remove gum from car paint without too much trouble, such as freezing it, using a bug and tar remover, and even with peanut butter!
Check below for a brief walkthrough of each method:
  • Freezing: you can remove gum by freezing it with compressed air and allowing it to harden, after which you can use a plastic scraper to gently peel it away.
  • Bug and tar remover: spray the chewing gum with bug and tar remover and let it sit for a few minutes before using a plastic scraper to work the gum loose on all sides—use a cloth rag to pull the gum away and repeat as necessary.
  • Peanut butter: surprisingly, peanut butter works well for removing gum—simply cover the gum with peanut butter, let sit for five minutes, and then use a wet cloth to wipe it all off.
Remove any gum residue that remains with residue remover or further bug and tar remover applications.
