How do you put electric windows in old cars?

I’m in love with my old Chevy, but I sure do wish I didn’t have to crank down the windows every time I wanted some fresh air. Is it possible to upgrade my car windows? How do you go about putting electric windows on old cars?

It sounds like you could really benefit from some convenient automatic windows! Depending on your make and model, you may be able to find a custom kit to convert your manual windows to electric.
Here’s what we know about putting electric windows into an old car:
  1. Research **and **purchase a power window kit compatible with your car’s make and model.
  2. Read through your kit manual and make sure you have all the necessary tools to get the job done.
  3. Remove the hardware keeping the door panel in place, thus removing the door panel. Also, remove all of the plastic covering that continues to the bottom of the door.
  4. Punch out the screws holding the factory mechanical regulator. A rubber door stopper placed between the door and the window can be used to hold the glass up.
  5. Remove the old regulator and all its screws. Plug the wiring harness into your new regulator and try to align it with the existing holes in the door from the manual regulator.
  6. Using screws,** attach** the new regulator. Repeat this process for the other doors.
It’s also important to cover any leftover holes using the template decal from your kit. You can make holes to hold the screws to the panel by drilling through the markings on the decal. A hot blade or razor can also be used to make holes.
The switches can now be inserted into the back of the panel. Don’t forget to add foam! No one wants shorts in the wiring. Once the panel and template are secure, and after you’ve done the same for the other three doors, the power window system needs to be ground to the factory ground lug.
Access the ignition switch wire and connect the plugs to the doors. And don’t forget to re-install the door panels when you’re done, along with any plastic coverings.
Now that you have the confidence to convert your old windows yourself, make sure you also feel confident about your car insurance plan for your beloved Chevy. Did you know most Americans overpay for their coverage every month?
