How do you protect a car from snow and salt?
I just moved to Lake Tahoe and I think I’m in over my head. My car is already dented, scratched, and rusting from the constant snow and salt! What should I be doing to protect my car from snow and salt?

Congratulations on the new move! Unfortunately, salt and snow are non-negotiable when it comes to living in cold areas. But that doesn’t mean your car needs to get damaged. You can use these tips to protect your car from salt and snow.
- Clean it. Keeping your car clean is a great way to remove salt or other minerals that could damage your paint. Try to give it a quick rinse at least once a week—and don’t forget the undercarriage!
- Wax it. Waxing your car is like giving it an invisible layer of protection. Salt rocks and other little pebbles will be less likely toscratch your paintwith a good wax job.
- Remove wet leaves. Leaves that stick to your car can collect salty moisture from the ground, and if they sit, they could cause rusting.
- Cover it. If you can’t park inside, at least keep it covered overnight. While it won’t stop your car from getting cold, it can prevent layers of ice and moisture from sticking directly to your paint.
