How do you open the gas tank on a Honda Civic hatchback?

We just rented a Honda Civic for our vacation in Florida, and we’re planning on driving quite a bit while we’re down here. I always get anxious about learning to drive a new vehicle, though. How do you open the gas tank on a Honda Civic hatchback?

Enjoy the
Florida
sunshine! As for your rental, we’ve got you covered. To open the gas tank on a
Honda Civic
hatchback, you’ll want to press the right edge of the fuel door until it pops up. Make sure the Civic’s doors are unlocked first—otherwise, your fuel door won’t respond.
Here are some other tips to set you up for success while refueling your rented Civic hatchback:
  • The fuel door is on the driver’s side of the vehicle
  • The
    Honda Civic LX
    and
    Honda Civic EX
take regular unleaded 87 octane gas
  • The
    Honda Civic Sport
    and
    Honda Civic Sport Touring
take regular unleaded premium fuel with an
    octane rating
    of 91 or higher
  • Your Civic does NOT have a fuel cap, so just stick the filler nozzle directly into the filler neck
  • Once your Civic has been fully fueled, Honda recommends waiting five seconds before pulling out the nozzle and shutting the fuel door again
You don’t have to worry about anyone opening your fuel door while you’re parked. As long as your Civic is locked, the fuel door will lock.
If by some chance you’re renting an older Civic model, the fuel release button is next to the driver’s seat on the floor. All you need to do is press it down. You can also find quick numbers like your Civic’s VIN and tire inflation pressure inside the label in the driver door jamb. Happy travels!
