How do you open the gas tank on a 2022 Kia Sportage?
I’d like to think that I’m pretty good with cars, but alas, I have run into an embarrassing problem—I don’t know how to open the gas tank on my 2022 Kia Sportage. When did things get so complicated? How do I open this thing?

Why’d they have to go and make things so complicated!?
There is no gas tank door release lever anywhere in the cabin area of the 2022
Kia Sportage
. Instead, to open the gas tank door, you’ll need to get out of the vehicle and—with the driver’s side door unlocked—simply push on the right-side edge of the gas tank door. When you do, the spring-loaded latch will release and you’ll be able to open the gas tank door.When you’re done fueling up, replace and tighten the gas cap and close the gas tank door. When your driver’s side door is locked, your gas tank door will lock, too.
Kia has been messing with their fuel release mechanisms a lot over the past few years, much to the chagrin of unsuspecting owners. The 2011–2016 Kia Sportages had their fuel release levers situated on the floor next to the driver’s side door, as did the 2004–2010 iterations. But ever since 2017, the Kia Sportage has been leverless.
If you have unlocked your driver’s side door and your fuel tank door still won’t open, your Sportage might be experiencing an electrical problem. Take your Sportage to your nearest Kia dealership to have the problem looked at by a professional Kia technician.
