How big is the gas tank on a 2020 Kia Soul?

Sometimes, a vehicle’s gas tank size can vary somewhat based on its model year, engine type, or trim level. The 2020 Kia Soul has a 14.3-gallon gas tank across all its trim levels and engine options. (With the exception of the electric model, of course.)
By comparison, the Kia Soul’s first-generation vehicles’ gas tanks were a bit smaller, with a capacity of about 12.7 gallons, with a larger gas tank and a better fuel economy, you’re probably not refueling as often as you would need to with an older model year.

How to check your 2020 Kia Soul’s gas tank size

How do you figure out your vehicle’s gas tank capacity for yourself—Kia Soul or otherwise? There are several ways to find out—here are just a few.

Check your owner’s manual

The quickest way to find out your 2020 Kia Soul’s gas tank size is to pull out your owner’s manual. You should be able to find its fuel capacity in the specifications section at the back end of the manual.

Measure the gas tank

You could also figure out your gas tank size by way of simple math. With a measuring tape or ruler, measure the height, length, and width of your gas tank in inches and multiply those numbers. Now, you’ll have your gas tank’s volume in cubic inches.
To convert this to gallons, divide that number by 231 (the number of cubic inches in a gallon), and there you have it: your Kia Soul’s fuel capacity!

Drive till empty, then fill it up

A less exact and somewhat risky way to figure out your engine's fuel capacity would be to wait until your fuel gauge reaches or nears the “E” level. Then, when you’re at the gas station refueling, note how many gallons it takes you to fuel up.
You could also opt to do this when your gas gauge reads as being half full, then just multiplying how many gallons it takes to refuel by two.
While not the most precise, this can give you a rough estimate of how much fuel your gas tank can hold.

How to save on fuel costs in a Kia Soul

The 2020 Kia Soul’s fuel economy can vary somewhat based on what engine and drivetrain type it has, but generally, you could expect it to get an average gas mileage between 27 and 31 mpg. Here’s a look at how their combined city/highway fuel economies compare:
  • 2020 Kia Soul 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine, automatic: 30 mpg
  • 2020 Kia Soul 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine, manual 6-speed: 27 mpg
  • 2020 Kia Soul 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter engine, automatic (AM-S7): 29 mpg
  • 2020 Kia Soul Eco 4-cylinder, 2.0L, automatic: 31 mpg
That’s a nice step up from previous model years, but if you want to get the most out of your Kia Soul’s gas mileage potential, here are a few tips:
  • Keep up with
    routine maintenance
. While a vehicle’s fuel economy can decrease over time due to wear and tear, keeping your car well-maintained minimizes those effects and helps your Kia perform at its most efficient level.
  • Ease up on the gas pedal. Most driving scenarios don’t require heavy acceleration, and doing so wastes more gas than gradually accelerating does.
  • Don’t idle your vehicle as much. Not only does it waste gas, but idling a car can be hard on an engine, especially in cold weather. As long as temperatures are above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, driving your car more slowly for the first few minutes after startup can be easier on your engine than letting it idle to warm up.
