Depending on the specific model, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler has an engine oil capacity of either 5 quarts, 6.7 quarts, or 9 quarts.

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler was available with four different possible engines. The oil capacity for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 3.6-liter V6 engines is 5 quarts. However, the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine requires 9 quarts of engine oil, and the 6.4-liter Rubicon 392 V8 needs 6.7 quarts of oil.
Ready for another week where you come out on top as the family hero? Then impress your family by finally changing your Jeep Wrangler’s oil, so it can be ready for another adventure. Sure, you could take it to the dealership—in fact, some warranties require it—but if you’re not required to bring your Wrangler in for its oil changes, changing it yourself is a great way to stay on top of your
routine maintenance
while saving a little extra money.
We’ll explain the different Jeep Wrangler engine oil capacities, and we’ll also discuss oil viscosities and what kinds of oil to use depending on which Wrangler you have. Then, we’ll provide a brief How To on doing your own oil change.

2022 Jeep Wrangler engine oil capacity

While the two engines available for the two-door Wrangler have the same engine oil capacity of 5 quarts or 4.7 liters, the other two engines available with the four-door Wrangler Unlimited need more.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 requires a whopping 9 quarts or 8.5 liters of engine oil, and the 6.4-liter V8 needs 6.7 quarts or 6.3 liters of oil.

What kind of oil does a 2022 Jeep Wrangler need?

Jeep recommends using Pennzoil full-synthetic motor oil for Jeep Wrangler models, but the viscosity you use will depend on which engine you have.
For the 2.0-liter engine, use 5W-30 oil. Use 5W-40 for the V8 and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel, and use 0W-20 for the 3.6-liter V6 models.
These viscosity ratings are used to indicate how thick your oil is at freezing temperatures (“W” for Winter) compared to its thickness at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally speaking: The higher the number, the thicker the oil, but oils are still thicker at colder temperatures, even though their W number is lower than the other number.

How often to change the oil on a 2022 Jeep Wrangler

Now you’re ready to
change the oil and filter
in your 2022 Wrangler… right? Well, not necessarily! There’s one thing we have to be sure of before we change the oil. Is it actually ready to be changed yet?
Since you’re probably using synthetic oil, you need to change your oil about every 7,500 miles. You might be able to go longer than that, but because Jeeps are often used in extreme conditions, your synthetic oil might not last as long as other vehicles.
It’s a good idea to keep track of how when your last oil change was, but you should still make a habit of checking your oil at least once per month. Be aware of these signs when they appear, because they’re telltale signs that an oil change is past due:
  • When you check the oil, it looks dark, opaque, and dirty. Imagine what it looks like fresh out of the bottle for contrast.
  • When you rub a bit of the oil between your fingers, it feels dirty/sandy/gritty.
  • Strange noises/smells are coming from the engine.
  • Your Jeep isn’t performing as well as usual.
  • Your instrument cluster display is giving you an “oil change required” message.

How to change your oil and oil filter

Here are the supplies you’ll need if you’re ready to get started:
  • 13-mm socket wrench for drain bolt
  • 24-mm socket and extension for filter
  • Drain pan
  • New replacement oil filter
  • Funnel
  • Gloves
  • Rags
  • The correct amount of the correct type of oil for your engine (see above)
To start off, run the engine for about two to three minutes in order to thin out the oil and improve the draining process.
Then, follow these steps:
  • Open the hood of your car
and unscrew the oil fill cap.
  • Get underneath your Jeep, find the oil drain plug and set up the drain pan so that it will collect the draining oil once you remove the plug
  • Once you’re ready, loosen the oil drain plug with your socket wrench—but not all the way. Once you’re able to, use your hands to loosen the bolt so that you have more control over when the oil starts flowing. As soon as that plug is out, the oil will start pouring out.
  • While the old oil is draining, remove the dirty oil filter and install the new one.
  • When all the oil has drained, replace the oil drain plug. Tighten as well as you can with the socket wrench, but it doesn’t need to be forced any tighter.
  • Now, you’re ready to pour in the new oil!
Cycle the new oil through the engine briefly, by running it for about 30 seconds, then check the oil level and check for leaks. Make sure to properly recycle the old oil, storing it in sealed containers.
Finally, you’ll need to reset your oil change reminder system. Switch the ignition to RUN with your foot OFF the brake. Then use the arrow keys to navigate through your driver information screen on the instrument cluster. When you find the “Oil Life” screen, hold OK to reset it.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
