How do you make a homemade car air freshener?

Can I DIY an air freshener for my car? If so, how? I love the smell of store-bought air fresheners, but I'm worried about toxic chemicals.

“If you want a more natural approach to freshen up the air in your car, try using peppermint or citrus oil.
Here’s how:
  • Put several drops of peppermint or citrus oil on a clothespin and clip it to your air vent.
  • Get a piece of foam and add peppermint oil to it. Hang it from your mirror or put it under your seat.
  • Fill a mason jar 2/3 of the way with baking soda. Add a few drops of peppermint oil. Screw on the lid, then poke holes in it. Place the jar under your seat.
Keep in mind that you should check your state’s laws to make sure that hanging something from the rearview mirror is legal. If it’s not, you risk being
pulled over
. And driving infractions can cause your car insurance rates to rise.
