Sorry to hear about your fender bender. Luckily, filing a claim is easier than you might think.
No matter who is at-fault, you’ll want to start by reporting the incident to your car insurance company ASAP. Call the company, or register a claim online or through the provider’s mobile app. (Your provider will get in contact with the other driver’s insurance for you.)
You may be asked to contact the police department to get a police report filed after the fact. They cannot deny your claim if you decline to file a police report, but it’s best to comply to get the official paperwork.
From there, an agent will contact you asking for photographs of the damage to your car and other evidence from the scene. The company will launch an investigation to verify who’s at fault and how much you’re entitled to in damages.
Keep track of your claim number and any updates to your case. Since this is your first claim, you may want to ask your agent:
Is there a time limit for resolving claims disputes?
Is there a deadline to submit additional information?
When can I expect the insurance company to contact me?
How much is my deductible?
