How do you insure someone else’s car?

We got my daughter a car for her graduation. She’s heading off to college, and insurance is too expensive for her to handle on her own. Can we insure her car?

That’s great that you got your daughter a car! How nice of you!
Car insurance
for young drivers can be very costly, especially if they are on their own policy. They are considered high-risk drivers and haven’t built up a record of car insurance coverage to prove they are responsible.
The good news is you should be able to add your daughter to your insurance policy, even if she is away at college.
As she will likely be using your home as her permanent address, this should be pretty easy to do. Even if she’s going to school out of state, most insurers will consider her permanent address for her insurance policy.
There may be more ways to save money by applying for discounts. Some discounts you may be eligible for include:
  • Multi-vehicle discounts
  • Student away at school discounts
  • Good grade discounts
