How do you get rid of mold in your car's air conditioner?

Can I clean my air conditioner to get rid of the moldy smell? I've noticed a musty odor whenever I turn my AC on. I'm going on a long road trip soon and I want to get rid of it.

“The easiest way to get rid of mold in your car’s air conditioner is to use a disinfectant spray.
And your inkling to get it out is right! If you can smell mold in your car, eradicating it is essential for health reasons—mold can be toxic.
Here’s what to do:
  • Turn your car on.
  • Flip on the air conditioner as high as it will go. Use the outdoor air mode instead of the air recirculation.
  • Find the air intakes on the exterior of the car near the windshield and spray the disinfectant for about 15 seconds.
This should kill the mold. If it still smells a bit musty, repeat the process a few days later.
