How do you find out if someone has car insurance?
I was in a car accident and the other person fled the scene. The police have their license plate information but I need to know whether they have insurance. How can you check if a car is insured?

To find out if the other driver has

, you’ll need to contact the police. Remind them of the date, time, and place of the accident, as well as any other information you do have (like the names of the responding officers and/or the incident report number).Let the police know you need the other driver’s name and license plate number for insurance purposes. The police may even be able to search for their insurance information through the DMV database.
Otherwise, using the name and license plate, your insurance company may be able to find out whether the other driver has insurance.
Without their personal information, it can be extremely difficult to figure out if they are insured. So if you need your vehicle fixed immediately, it may be worth filing a claim with your own insurance.
