How do I check the transmission fluid on my new Honda Civic? I know I should be doing it because the car is a little older, but I’m not sure how.

Keeping up with a regular
car maintenance schedule
is key to preserving older cars for as long as possible. While checking your transmission fluid may seem tricky, try not to worry—it’s easy to do. Follow these steps to check the transmission fluid in your Honda Civic:
  1. Let your car run for five minutes.
  2. Turn off your engine and
    open the hood
    .
  3. Find the transmission fluid dipstick, which is usually located to the right of the oil dipstick.
  4. Remove the dipstick and wipe it off with a clean towel.
  5. Examine the transmission fluid. If you see debris, particles, or sparkly pieces in your transmission fluid, it’s time to change the fluid.
  6. Put the dipstick back into the transmission fluid container.
  7. Pull the dipstick out of the container, and check to make sure the fluid level is within the recommended marks. If it’s too low, refill it.
Hopefully, these steps will help you check the transmission fluid in your
Honda Civic
. Remember that sparkly or chunky transmission fluid can be a sign of corroded metal elsewhere in your car. If you notice either of these signs, bring your car to a
mechanic
as soon as possible.
