How do you change the rear brake caliper in a 2009 Dodge Caravan?

My car has been dragging to the side when braking lately, and yesterday I heard an obnoxious high-pitched screaming—Google says there's something with my rear brake caliper. How do I change the rear brake caliper on my 2009 Dodge Caravan by myself?

Those symptoms do sound like they could be caused by a faulty rear brake caliper!
If you decide to fix this issue yourself, you can perform the following steps on your
2009 Dodge Caravan
:
  • Securely jack up the car with axle stands and wheel chocks, then remove the road wheel
  • Remove the two allen heads securing the caliper and carefully pry the caliper off the disc. Be careful so as to not break any components
  • Pull the pads out, which are usually held in place by clips
  • Carefully remove the brake line from the caliper. Use a receptacle to catch any spilled brake fluid
  • With the new caliper, drive the piston back into its cylinder with water pump pliers or G-clamps
  • Refit the pads and mount the caliper on the carrier, then refit the caliper sliding bolts and make sure they’re in good working order
  • Tighten the bolts, reattach the brake hose and bleed the caliper to remove the air
This can seem like a lot of steps, but if you know what you’re doing, changing your rear brake caliper should be relatively easy!
