Geico sells auto insurance and acts as a broker for home insurance, so you’ll need to talk to the company that holds the policy. You’ll be able to get that company’s contact information if you go to Geico’s website or by calling their customer service at 1-800-841-1587.
Geico’s
website recommends having your policy number on hand to simplify the process.
Before you cancel, it’s a good idea to ensure your new
home insurance
policy is in place first. You don’t want a lapse in coverage! If you have a loan on the house, you need to be careful–the lender will require insurance coverage, so you can’t cancel the policy until you have a new provider. You’ll also need to make sure your lender is updated on the change to avoid getting into trouble.
In states like California and Florida, homeowner’s insurance is becoming much harder to find. Companies are starting to back out of offering coverage in states that are high risk due to natural disasters, such as wildfires and hurricanes. So don’t cancel your policy without a new insurer in place.
