How do I remove rust spots from white car paint?

I have an old white car with some rust damage, and I was just hoping I could fix it at home. Is that possible?

Yes, you can remove rust spots at home. You’ll need a bar of detailing clay and a polymer coating.
Here’s how:
  • Park your car in the shade or in another cool environment.
  • Be sure the rusted area is clean and dry.
  • Knead the clay bar so it’s more workable, then flatten it out on a clean surface. If you get your clay dirty it could scratch your car’s paint.
  • Apply a polymer spray (like Perfect Shine) to the surface you’re going to treat in order to make it slick.
  • Smooth the clay bar over the surface without any pressure. If the clay sticks to the paint, add more protectant, or else it will scratch the paint.
  • As the clay begins to lift the rust, be sure to knead it again to expose a clean side.
