How do I remove an insurance black box from my car?

I used a black box insurance company because they offered me a pretty good rate, but I'm not sure I love their coverage. I'm thinking of switching insurance to a traditional provider—but I don't know where they actually put the box, and I'm pretty sure i need to move it before I can switch. How can I remove the black box?

“Good for you for making the switch to a provider that fits your needs better! Removing the black box, also known as an
car insurance
telematics box — especially in the U.K. — can vary in ease and simplicity. Here’s how to get started:
  • Locate the black box. It will likely be in your dashboard or behind the glove box.
  • If it’s behind the glove box: Removing the black box will require you to take the glove box out.
  • If it’s in the dashboard: The process is decidedly more difficult. In most cases, you may need to take your car into a repair shop or call the insurance company for instructions.
