How do I put a Lincoln MKX in neutral with a dead battery?

My Lincoln MKX has a dead battery, but I can’t reach the engine compartment to perform a battery test or jump-start it. To exacerbate the problem, the car doesn’t have a traditional gear shifter, so I have no idea how to put it in neutral. What do I need to do to get the MKX in neutral?

Here’s how to put a Lincoln MKX in neutral with a dead battery:
  1. Open the center console and look for a small slot. This is the manual gearshift override.
  2. With your foot on the brake, push a flathead screwdriver into this hole and you should feel a spring-loaded switch.
  3. With the screwdriver pushed in, your car is temporarily in neutral. However, you may need another person to push it if it’s on flat ground.
In the future, you may want to think about adding
towing and labor coverage
