How do I put a Honda Accord in neutral with a dead battery?

I have a Honda Accord, but I think the battery must have died because it won’t turn over. However, it’s in my garage, and I need to push it out to jump-start the battery. How can I shift it into neutral if the battery is dead?

Sorry to hear about your battery. To put a Honda Accord in neutral with a dead battery, follow these simple step-by-step instructions:
  1. Get into the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  2. Look at either the left side or the front plastic trim around the stick shift—this will vary by model year.
  3. You should see a small plastic cap.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the cap off.
  5. Insert the flathead screwdriver into the area where the cap was.
  6. Press down to release the gearshift.
  7. With your foot on the brake, shift the car into neutral.
In the future, you may want to consider
towing and labor coverage
for your next car insurance policy. It functions just like roadside assistance and can lend a helping hand if your battery dies in an inconvenient location.
