How do I open the Suzuki SX4 hood?

I am breaking my old Suzuki SX4 out of the barn today so I can drive it for the summer. I need to check the oil and get any leaves that may have accumulated under the hood. It's been so long that I forgot how to open it up! How do I open the Suzuki SX4 hood?

It’s a good idea to give your engine a once-over before taking it out on the road. We will have you under your Suzuki SX4‘s hood in no time! Just follow these steps:
  • Pull the primary hood release. You will find it under the steering wheel on the driver side component panel
  • Once you pull the hood release, the hood will pop up, and stay slightly raised
  • Locate the safety latch. It is in the space between the hood and the car, right below the Suzuki hood ornament
  • Push the safety latch to the right, and then lift the hood straight up with one hand and move the hood strut in place with the other
