I just moved into a new house in Pittsburgh with a yard and garden—as a long-time apartment renter, having grass and flowers I can access anytime is just magical! One problem, though: we have mice. How do I keep mice out of my garden?

dwelling swimmingly—aside from the mice problem. We definitely don’t want the rodents to win here, so here are some tips on keeping mice out of the garden: - Cut your grass, shrubs, and tree limbs regularly to give the mice as few hide-outs and hang-outs as possible
- Plant flowers and bulbs that mice hate: gardeners recommend strong-smelling plants like camphor, euphorbias, garlic, lavender, mint, and alliums
- Avoid using straw or fluffy mulch in your garden—mice will use this for their nests
- Keep bird-feeders and pet bowls far away from the garden
- Make sure there are no consistent water sources for the mice near the garden (i.e., leaking spigots, garden hoses, etc.)
- Wrap tree trunks and protect plants and bulbs with cloth cylinders or cages
