How do I get oil out of a spark plug well?

Help! I think there’s oil in one of my engine’s spark plug wells. I know that can’t be good for my car. How do I get oil out of a spark plug well?

We’re glad you caught the issue. There are a few ways to clean oil out of a spark plug well.
First, remove the spark plugs from the problem wells. If they are oily, you can clean the spark plugs off while they are removed from the engine.
To clean out the spark plug wells, using a rolled-up paper towel or q-tips are two very simple, effective ways to reach and remove the oil.
Or, after the spark plugs are removed, turn the engine over. This will blow much of the oil out of the spark plug wells. However, you might want to cover the well with a rag or cloth to catch the oil—otherwise, it’s likely to make a mess.
