It’s a good idea to fix a cracked engine splash shield. The best call is to replace a damaged engine shield with a new one.
This plastic panel—known as the engine splash shield, the skid plate, or the under engine cover—is exposed to the elements and can be damaged by debris or bumps in the road. Here’s a step-by-step guide to replacing the plastic panel beneath your car:
*Jack up your car so you can get underneath it.
*Clean off the splash shield to help you identify all bolts and clips.
*Remove all bolts and clips and take off the old splash shield.
