Can low oil cause the EPC light to turn on?

My Electronic Power Control (EPC) light is currently lit on my dashboard. I’m pretty sure I’m also due for an oil change. Can low oil cause the EPC light to turn on?

Good question! The Electronic Power Control (EPC) monitors the throttle system, although low oil can impact engine’s systems.
The EPC light points to a problem with your throttle system. Possible problem components include:
  • Throttle body
  • Accelerator pedal
  • Traction control
  • Cruise control
However, engine oil is crucial to a healthy engine and lubricated parts, so it’s possible an issue that has triggered the EPC light is caused by low oil. Is the oil change light on? That might help diagnose the issue.
Either way, sounds like it’s time to head to a mechanic to get your car checked out.
