What happens if you’re caught driving with just a permit?

I just got my permit last week and I’m so excited to drive solo! The grocery store is pretty close and I could probably make it there without getting caught. What happens if you’re caught driving with just a permit?

Driving without a license is illegal, and if you’re caught driving with just a permit, you could face a number of consequences.
Possible penalties for driving without a license include:
  • Fines—will vary by state
  • Infraction or misdemeanor charge on your driving record
  • Vehicle impoundment
  • Community service
Remember: With a permit you’re only allowed to drive with a licensed driver beside you. I know you’re excited to drive solo but wait until you have your license to do so.
