How do I find someone else's insurance information?

After an accident, another driver gave me false insurance info—I’m really frustrated and upset, but more importantly, I don’t know where to look now! How do I find out someone else's (correct) insurance information?

I’m so sorry that happened—accidents are bad enough as it is without things like this! I’m glad to say, though, that you can find someone else’s insurance information through the police report or the DMV.
The easiest solution is always to ask the driver
after an accident
— but of course, it’s not always that simple!
If this isn’t possible, you can turn to the police or the DMV. You will also need to prove why you need the information, though, so be ready to explain yourself.
If all else fails, reach out to your own insurance provider! They may be able to help.
