How do I clean car air ducts?

What's the best way to clean my car's air vents? They are filthy, but I'm not sure how to deep clean them.

“To deep clean car air ducts (commonly called vents), you’ll need a can of compressed air, a strong vacuum, and a clean microfiber cloth or two.
Because dust and even mold—ew—can get trapped deep inside the ventilation slots, it’s a good idea to clean your car’s air ducts regularly. Here’s how:
  • Spray a can of compressed air (aka electonics duster) into the duct to get the dust out.
  • Next, vacuum each of the vents as well as possible. Then, turn your air on full blast and vacuum them again.
  • Finish up by spraying a clean microfiber cloth with car cleaner and wiping away any remaining dust from the vent slats.
Consider adding this type of cleaning to your
basic car maintenance schedule
. By doing so, you can make sure that your car’s air quality and appearance remain in tip-top condition.
