Lexus has a reputation for top-quality vehicles in their class and continues to dominate the market due to its luxury look and more affordable price point. But even Lexus models need regular maintenance to perform at their best, and tire maintenance is no exception.
That’s where lug pattern knowledge comes into play. Don’t know what a lug pattern is? Don’t worry—

Why you should know your Lexus’s lug pattern

Lug patterns, sometimes referred to as bolt patterns, describe the number and type of spacing of the lug holes on a car’s wheels.
Lug patterns consist of two numbers: the first tells you how many lug holes the wheels have, and the second is the diameter of the imaginary circle formed by those holes.
For example, a 5x5 lug pattern tells you that a specific wheel has 5 five lugs that create a 5-inch circle.
Knowing your Lexus’ lug pattern allows you to figure out what kind of wheels you can put on your car (and which aren’t compatible).

Lug pattern terminology 101

If you’re new to understanding what lug patterns mean, the table above can seem pretty overwhelming at first glance. But once you figure out what the following key terms mean, you’ll have no problem understanding those numbers!
OEM wheel size: This acronym is short for Original Equipment Manufacturer and describes the diameter of your Lexus’s original wheels. You’ll need to match any new rims to this diameter to install new rims.
Lug pattern: Lug patterns are sometimes called bot patterns and represent the number of lug holes as well as the diameter of the imaginary circle they create. Understanding this pattern helps you find the correct wheel size for your Lexus.
Offset: The offset tells you the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the rim. A positive offset means the wheels are pulled in towards the car while a negative offset means they’ll stick out from the car. Most Lexus wheels have offsets that range from +20 to +45.
Stud size: You’ll see stud sizes written in two different ways depending on where you’re reading the measurement and who the manufacturer is. US fasteners are written in the imperial system as stud diameter x threads per inch (e.g., 1/2x20), while metric fasteners are written as stud diameter x distance between threads (e.g.,14mmx1.50).
Center bore: The center bore is the opening that centers the wheel on the hub. That hole can vary in size, so knowing the right measurement is crucial when selecting new wheels.

How to measure your Lexus lug pattern

If your Lexus’s lug pattern wasn’t included in our table above, you can figure out the lug pattern at home easily. All you need is a measuring tape or ruler to do this job at home!
First things first: count the number of lugs on the wheel of your Lexus. Nearly every Lexus has five lugs. This gives you the first number of your lug pattern.
Next, you need to measure the diameter of the pattern. Place the end of your tape measure or ruler at the outer edge of any of the lug holes. Point the other end of your measure to the closest lug hole on the opposite side of the tire, and stop measuring where it meets the center of the lug hole. This measurement gives you the second number of your lug pattern, which is the diameter!
