How do I add my brother to my car insurance?

My little brother recently purchased a new car. We live together, so I offered to add him to my car insurance. However, I've never had to add someone to my coverage before and I'm not sure how to go about it. How can I add him to my policy?

“Congrats to your brother! To add him to your
car insurance
, you’ll need to reach out to your car insurance companyor try adding him through your online account.
When adding someone to your car insurance, you will need:
  • Their driver’s license number
  • Date of birth
  • Full name
  • Their car’s vehicle identification number (VIN)
Your brother’s personal information, plus his driving history, credit history, and the type of vehicle he drives will influence how much it will cost to add him to your policy.
Before adding him to your policy, you can ask your car insurance company for a quote to determine what the cost will be. If the cost is too high, you might want to shop around for
multi-car insurance quotes
with other companies, which can help you find a lower rate for both of your vehicles.
One easy way to do this is with the
Jerry app
—we’ll get you personalized quotes from multiple providers so that all you have to do is choose the plan that works best for you and your brother. Once you’ve chosen a new plan, we’ll even help you switch, too!
Once again, congratulations to your brother, and hope he enjoys the new ride!”
