How do I add another driver to my insurance?

I'm moving in with my partner in a couple of weeks, and we're working on all the logistical stuff—including the fact that while he can drive, he doesn't have a car. I want to officially add him to my policy, but I'm not very savvy with insurance-related stuff. How do I add another driver to my insurance policy?

Congratulations to you and your partner! The first thing you should do is simply contact your insurance provider and let them know you want to add another driver.
They will likely ask for the following information:
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Social Security Number
  • Occupation
  • How long they’ve had their license
  • Any recent traffic tickets or accidents
That should be all you need to do!
A word of caution: sometimes adding drivers to an existing policy can be more expensive than switching to another policy, especially if they’re on the younger side, or if they’ve been
cited for any driving violations
recently.
