How can you prepare a car for painting?

Someone I know is learning how to paint cars, and he offered to do it for me at a really good price as long as I prepped my car first. How do I prep my car for getting painted?

It’s so nice of your friend to help you give your car a fresh paint job! Here’s how to prep your car for paint:
  1. Pull or fill any dings or dents
    on your car’s surface.
  2. Carefully sand down any excess filling.
  3. Go over your car with a 1,200 grit sandpaper to rough up the existing paint.
  4. To remove paint in larger areas, use an electric sander in circular motions.
  5. Wipe away any excess paint or grit left behind on your car.
Once you’ve removed as much paint as possible, your car is ready for a new paint job!
