How can you make your car louder at home?

My parents gave me an old Ford Taurus. It’s my first car and I really like it, but I wish it sounded cooler. Is there any way I can make my car louder at home?

Congrats on your first car! Generally, if you want to make your car louder at home, you will need to remove the sound dampening components in your car’s exhaust system. These components usually include:
  • Catalytic converter
  • Resonator
  • Exhaust muffler
If you remove all three of these components, it is called straight piping and will make your car incredibly loud. If you’re still living with your parents, I don’t recommend this one—it might get you into some trouble.
Alternatively, you could remove just the resonator and the muffler. Doing so will give you a louder sound without angering the neighborhood or damaging your car.
That said, the best way to get the sound you want out of your car is by installing an exhaust kit. If you decide to go with this, they can be pricey and typically require a professional install.
If you could use some extra savings to help you pay for your exhaust kit, check out the
