How can I tell where my Honda CRV was made?

I’ve always been curious about cars, so I obviously know that Honda is a Japanese company. However, one of my buddies recently got a job for Honda in the U.S., which piqued my curiosity even further, especially since I own a CRV. Is there any way to tell where my Honda CRV was made?

For sure! You can easily tell where your Honda CRV was made by taking a glance at your vehicle identification number (VIN). The first digit of the VIN corresponds to where any Honda was made, including the CRV:
  • American-made CRVs start with a 1, 4, or 5 corresponding to the factory where they were produced
  • Canadian-made CRVs start with a 2
  • Mexican-made CRVs start with a 3
  • Japanese-made CRVs start with a J
In any case, the quality between these models isn’t diminished by where they’re made. All CRVs are made to the same quality standards, so if you have a Canadian or Mexican CRV, don’t be worried.
