Sorry to hear about your radio going in and out. It’s a common problem with older vehicles, especially those with wire antennas. Fortunately, you can remedy the problem by checking your antenna or installing a signal booster on your radio.
Before you put down the money for an expensive radio signal repair, try these quick fixes:
  • Make sure your antenna mast is fully extended.
  • Check the connection between the antenna cord and the back of the head unit. All you need to do is remove the head unit and search for the antenna harness. Blow it out with compressed air and reinsert it. If the connection was the problem, your radio should start working again.
  • Replace your antenna and see if the signal improves.
If a new antenna still doesn’t fix the issue, you can purchase a radio signal booster for about $25. Since each model will come with different installation instructions, you should carefully follow the directions provided on the package.
